This reminded me of the works of Austen, or Bronte, or Hardy. But is a sort of satire/parody way. Still good characters, but a bit more "common". I was really engaged by Flora and Mrs Smiling at the start, there could be a novel of their adventures alone. Then we go to the farm and Flora sorts them out. Charming and fun. It was quite disheartening when we did not find out her "rights" as Poste's daughter or the backstory for Great Aunt Ada Doom.
