A Tale of Two Cities

This is the first book of Charles Dickens I have read, and I am suitably impressed. He does characters so well. It took me a while to warm up to the detail, but the detail is not wasted, it is not for its own sake or to make things pretty like in other books, it is character and plot building. I loved it, at a bit over 300 pages it was an easy read and had a wonderful plot. I picked it up thinking that a french revolution book might be appropriate in our covid, wealth inequality world. But Dickens has painted a very bleak picture. But humanity goes on, and the characters are relatable. It is one I could easily read again. I could not read Dickens books back to back, but I am glad I started my Dickens adventure with this one.
