Colour of Magic - Terry Pratchett

This is the first book in the Discworld series. This one stars Rincewind and Twoflower.

Pratchetts style at this stage was a humorous fantasy. It has magic and heroes and dragons. It is drawn from the traditional fantasy genre. In his later books he gets into his more common style, that of a world just a couple of dimensions apart from ours, so the juxtaposition is humorous. Going Postal is about the post office and telegraph in the Discworld. Raising Steam is about Railways.

This one is a great way to start Pratchett - funny, endearing characters, fantasy based, good adventure, and a simple linear story.
