The adventures of Alexander von Humboldt

The Lost Hero of Science

Andrea Wulf

Following the life of Alexander von Humboldt, late 1700s to early 1800s. What a time to be alive. Unexplored foreign lands, undocumented natural species. A time when rich young men rejected their well paid position in society and pursued their love of nature. A time before science was broken into many disciplines, where men like Alexander pursued the whole through adventures, observation, documentation, samples. They then talked and inspired one another. Society valued their contrbution and others built on their work.

Enjoyable read with Humboldt's own story and the story of a few of the many he inspired.
