I loved his Fear and Loathing and the Hells Angels one. This one certainly has that feeling, but it is much lighter. It is just a travel story, it does not have the structure or depth of character of his other work.
I just read it was one of his early works, started in 1959 and not published till 1998. You can see elements that would lead to the triumph of his later work.
