Richard Fidler

I love listening to Richard on radio national and remember him from the doug anthony all stars. This book spans 1000 years of Constantinople's history. Richard takes his 14 year old son Joe to see the city as they had shared a love of history together. Richard give some wonderful insight in to parts of the city's history. From Rome right through to the Ottoman Turks. Interspersed among these is parts of his modern day adventures with his son. But mostly it is history. Because of its broad subject it tends to only spend a few chapters on certain characters, so it moves quickly. But it is fascinating and a lovely stepping off point to examine particular stories more closely.
